Kelcy Warren Joins Kennedy Center Board of Trustees

Washington’s Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts may seem far removed from Texas pipelines. Yet Kelcy Warren, who founded Energy Transfer, was appointed to the center’s Board of Trustees in 2019. The appointment appears in a September 2024 Energy Transfer blog post that surveys his public service and philanthropy.

The Kennedy Center hosts theater, music, and dance programs and serves as the national memorial to President John F. Kennedy. Trustees help guide the institution’s direction.

Service Closer to Home

Warren holds other board roles in Texas. Governor Greg Abbott appointed him to the University of Texas System Board of Regents to serve through 2025. Kelcy Warren also sits on the board of the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation in Dallas.

That last role ties to one of his most visible gifts. In 2012 he donated $10 million that helped create Klyde Warren Park, a 5.2-acre space reconnecting uptown and downtown Dallas. A later $20 million donation is paying for park expansion and more free public programs.

Honors and Other Commitments

His business career has brought a steady stream of awards. Hart Energy, the Texas Oil & Gas Association, SMU Cox’s Maguire Energy Institute, and D CEO Magazine have all recognized him. He belongs to the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans and the Texas Business Hall of Fame, and he received the Hanlon Award from the Gas Processors Association.

Education draws much of his giving. His $12 million gift to the University of Texas at Arlington in 2023 was the largest in that school’s history. He also backs MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, the March of Dimes, and the Bush Foundation.

The Kennedy Center role shows how far his civic reach extends. Kelcy Warren’s commitments now stretch from a Dallas park board to a university system in Austin to a national arts institution on the Potomac River. Read this article for more information.
